2009 NFL Playoff Predictions
Here’s what I got….and I did my fantasy rankings last night. I think the
NFC is so up for grabs that I don’t even know what to do with it. I could
easily make a case for any of those teams to win it all. I do not believe
NO or MIN are getting hot at the right time like they need to be. The Farve
story would make everyone happy (except GB).
This is how I see I going down.
Dallas over Philly…Philly really hasn’t beaten anyone good at all….and
Dallas is totally on a roll right now since beating NO and blanking WSH and
PHI.
I will take GB over AZ. AZ is too inconsistent and GB has been on a tear
since losing to TB. Only losing on a last second play to PIT in a game PIT
had to win to keep playoff hopes alive.
After that I see GB going to NO and beating the Saints. The Saints just
peaked too early and if Dallas is not the hottest NFC team, then GB
definitely is.
In the other game you have Dallas going to Minnesota. It’s a very evenly
matched game…i think the biggest difference is that since beating the
Saints…Dallas has all the confidence in the world. In his waning years,
Farve has made too many mistakes in the playoffs and Minnesota has not been
impressive at all here at the end of the season. AD cannot run the ball
well at all anymore either. Dallas has 3 guys who could be starting RBs in
the NFL. It’s an awesome committee I’ll go with Dallas.
Then you have Green Bay going to Dallas. It’s going to be hard for me to do this as a lifelong Redskin fan, but Dallas is going to the Super Bowl.
The AFC I see as much more predictable, despite the loss of Welker, NE will
still beat Baltimore. I have seen Tom Brady win games with guys like David
Givens, Troy Brown, David Patten and Jabar Gaffney…so I don’t see the loss
of Welker as being that big of a deal. Brady in postseason over Joe Flacco
any time you line them up.
Cincy saved everything and NYJs showed everything. It’s hard to bet against
the running game and defense of the NYJs, but it’s easy to bet against
Sanchez. This will be a great opportunity and experience he gets early on
in his career, but will not be good enough to beat Cincy.
That would send NE out to SD to play the hottest and IMO best team in the
NFL. The injuries, travel and tough schedule the Pats had this year will
catch up to them and the SD will move on to the conference finals.
The Bengals would head west to Indy to play a team that has thrown all it’s
momentum out the window but not suffered any devastating injuries in the
meantime. In a no brainer, Indy wins. However, it wouldn’t surprise me one
bit to see Indy go down to Cincy, the resting of players has NOT worked out
well for Indy in the past. If they win we will be setting up the big
showdown.
Indy will host SD. SD is too tough and playing too well to lose to Indy
right now.
Super Bowl 44, which I hope to be at again, will be between Dallas and San
Diego. San Diego is the best team in the NFL right now….and they will win
it.
For fantasy purposes however, I am going to try to key on players in the
NFC, especially Dallas players. The games should be much more exciting. My
strategy will be to get Romo/Rivers or Rogers in the first round, if I pick
early or mid round. If late, those guys will probably be gone and I may
need to adjust my strategy accordingly. In the 2nd round, I’d will hope to
get Gates. That is really who I want. I hope I get him. After that I will
go after Kaeding or Crosby to nail down 2-3 games worth of kicking and
scoring.
I hope my top 3 could be:
1. Romo/Rivers
2. Gates
3. Kaeding/Crosby
Here is what I ended up with after drafting on Monday for a 9 team, TD based league 1/2/2/1/1/1.
QB: T. ROMO
RB: F. JONES
RB: C. BENSON… See More
WR: R. WILLIAMS
WR: M. FLOYD
TE. A. GATES
PF: N. KAEDING
DEF: SAN DIEGO
